Cholesterol is a waxy substance that prevents the cells of our body. The substance is transported in the form of protein particles called lipoproteins. This allows the body to two types: low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL).

LDL is called bad cholesterol. This cholesterol can cause blockages in the arteries, heart disease effect. HDL carries excess cholesterol down to the liver and therefore is called good cholesterol.

Cholesterol is mostly created in the body by the liver. In addition we get the dust in through our food. Cholesterol is mostly found in animal fats. Meat, sausage, bacon, butter, cheese, chocolate and other fatty foods all contain large amounts of cholesterol.

Under control
It is important that you keep your cholesterol under control. An increased cholesterol levels in addition to heredity, gender, smoking, age and hypertension a major risk factor in the development of cardiovascular disease.

Total cholesterol should be expressed in conventional units, less than 5. Is the value between 5 and 6.5, then a modified diet in many cases sufficient. At values higher than 6.5 you need to use medication.
