Each day more than one hundred people get a stroke. Speed Dial 112 is vital, but many people seem not to recognize a stroke. The Dutch Heart Foundation has therefore made posters which the signals are shown in photos.

Research commissioned by the Heart Foundation has made clear that no less than ninety percent of the people the three most important signs of a stroke knows to appoint: a crooked mouth, slurred speech and poor cripple. Nevertheless, recognizing a stroke in reality more difficult. At a stroke should call 112 quickly, because time lost is brain lost. Therefore, everyone can recognize a stroke, says the Heart Foundation.
The effects of a stroke may be less severe as a rapid start. In contrast to a cardiac arrest, where bystanders can immediately start CPR, bystanders can at one stroke ‘nothing’ than to recognize a stroke and call 112 immediately. “But that’s crucial, because only doctors in the hospital can treat a stroke. The earlier treatment starts, the greater the chance of recovery,” the Heart Foundation.
A stroke is also called cerebral infarction or cerebral hemorrhage. It is one of the leading causes of disability and the number one killer among women. Die each year in the Netherlands about 10,000 people and have half million people living with the serious consequences of stroke.
